A Stick for a Cause

advantages of cigars, positive cigars, Stick for a cause, A Stick for a Cause, benefits of cigarettes, Purpose of Smoking, Cao Cigars, Electronic Cigarettes, Smoking and Confidence

I’m not a smoker but I’m a good friend of chain smokers. I met some of these kinds of friends when I worked in a call center way back year 2007. When I asked them why they liked to smoke, they have simply answered me, “it’s because we wanted to…” It may be just a weak statement but I know for sure they have deeper reason why were they wanted to smoke constantly.

My sister also smokes but she only does it inside the ladies room or toilet. Her reason, you know, to avoid smelling her own poop. Quite a strategy, huh! Yes, she does it with self-purpose.

If I’m going to guess the reason why a person smoke, I think it’s because it’s part of their personality. Likewise, it’s a common human instinct that increases someone’s confidence. Whether we like it or not, we have to admit that smoking is a courageous act. Why did I say so? Because when you smoke, you are not just challenging our mother nature (due to air pollution) but you are also challenging your health. If we take it positively, there are people who smoke because it decreases the tension they feel which helps them to focus their mind in making critical decision. A decision that is really important that would impact their lives.

I actually tried smoking when I was still a kid. But it seems that smoking didn’t like me. Not because of health issue but because I just thought that it’s really not part of my personality. Like what I’ve said, it takes one’s courage to smoke.

If I will give myself a chance, maybe one of these days, I will try smoking once again since there are lots of new alternatives like electronic cigarettes or cao cigars.

It’s not yet too late to challenge myself. If that day comes, I will see to it that I smoke with a purpose. Not even a single stick would become meaningless because it would be a stick for a cause! (AAP)

Good taste, great pairings with San Miguel Lifestyle Brews

San Miguel Lifestyle Brew Beers, San Miguel Lifestyle Brew, San Miguel Super Dry, Cerveza Negra, San Miguel Premium All-Malt

San Miguel Lifestyle Brew Beers with pulutan

When I was in high school, I frequently drink with my friends and classmates every time there’s an occasion like birthday, anniversary or even after just passing a hard exam. We were doing this because we have something to celebrate. However, pairing this with your favorite dish or what we call pulutan, is one of the best factors to consider as this will ensure you of enjoying every minute of your drinking moment.

As of today, I’m still drinking whenever there’s a party or gathering. But most of the time, I’m drinking with my brothers-in-law. This is because one of them always makes good pulutan. One of my brothers-in-law is a Dentist and he is an excellent cook as well. He almost always perfected his Sisig recipe during our drinking session. He has his own Sisig recipe that one could not find in any restaurant (even in those expensive first class restaurants). This is the pulutan that I like most because it’s a dish that’s just perfectly fit for any San Miguel Lifestyle Brews namely San Miguel Super Dry, Cerveza Negra and San Miguel Premium All-Malt. The taste may just be ordinary but our bonding as brothers in law is somewhat the perfect pair in our drinking session. This is because we share the stories of our respective lives and it helps us view our future positively. Moreover, with San Miguel Lifestyle Brews, it doesn’t just make every moment typical because it could let us feel a drinking experience that’s above the ordinary.

San Miguel Lifestyle Brew Beers, San Miguel Lifestyle Brew, San Miguel Super Dry, Cerveza Negra, San Miguel Premium All-Malt

My favorite Sisig together with San Miguel Lifestyle Brew Beers, perfect for drinking session!

I can still remember the time when I was a kid. I’m always wondering why the adults love drinking beer even if it tastes differently. But now, I know the reason why it tastes like that, it’s because it makes the conversation longer. In every gulp of a bottle or glass, one could seemingly feel the refreshing astonishment of the bonding with his or her company. The more the beer tastes differently, the more the conversation is prolonged which would make the event more meaningful.

Maybe, the true essence of drinking is not because of the celebration. Well, that’s the main reason! But perhaps what matters most is the moment that you’ve spent together with your friends, families and loved ones and I believe this is the ultimate reason behind every memorable event. (AAP)

My Virtual Personality

effects of social networking sites, my virtual personality, social network, social networking protection, social networking security, virtual life, webpage builder, virtual fame, fame at fingertips

It seems that the gap between a celebrity and an ordinary person who is trying his or her own move to become one is getting thinner. Why did I say so? It’s because now, you can be an instant celebrity via the virtual world. To give you an example, there’s Charice Pempengco who was known globally because of her amazing youtube videos. It’s what I call fame at your fingertips.

Before, we are satisfied with a collection of pictures in a photo album or a recorded video of significant events in our lives like wedding and birthdays. But now, we don’t just want to have it for ourselves because we want to broadcast it to everyone. I can still remember the time when I first learned how to create a webpage using line of codes of HTML. It’s actually the basic and the foundation in creating a webpage. But now, you can create a personalized website using a webpage builder where you can post any pictures and/or videos that you want to share in public.

Who do you think would want to be left behind with all these technologies? Almost, every week or every day, a new application is being created to fulfill the human contentment. It’s a perpetual instinct that nobody can stop.

In reality, you will notice how time really flies so fast. As if you cannot measure it in a snap of a finger or in a blink of an eye. However, we have to keep in mind that virtual world is very far different from reality, and whatever happens, we should know how to preserve our respective personal lives and make it humanely meaningful as possible. So far, this was the biggest blogging event for the bloggers and by the bloggers wherein the participants came from different parts of the country. Aside from that, what made this event truly successful was due to the presence of the reputable speakers not just in the blogging industry but also in mass media.

The Blogopolis Flow

The registration started at around 9:00am and the participants, who were mostly bloggers, were able to get their respective conference kits and IDs. Since this was a blogging event, the organizers were able to provide a fresh concept of the conference’s ID in which the social networking accounts of the participants were synchronously updated everytime the IDs were being tapped in the system. Quiet interesting, huh!?

Not just an actor but for those who don’t know, Chuckie Dreyfus is also a blogger.

For the first keynote speaker, Mr. Manuel L. Quezon III has shared his views on the topic The Role of Social Media in E-Governance; with Noemi Dado and Jane Uymatiao as panellists. Mr. Manolo (his nickname) Quezon III was able to present his ideas on the current social media strategies and key issues like how social media empowers individuals and develops new leaders, and how will social media create more civil virtue due to its public nature.

Ms. Maria A. Ressa points at her presentation while sharing her expertise as a journalist.

Meanwhile, Ms. Maria A. Ressa, a professional Filipino Journalist who worked as the head of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Department and Cable News Network (CNN) for nearly two decades, CEO of Rappler and author of Seeds of Terror (a book published by Free Press that contains blow-by-blow account of the hideouts of Al-Qaeda in Asia) served as the second keynote speaker for the topic From Offline to Online with Ellen Tordesillas as the panelist. Ms. Ressa told the participants that to be an effective blogger; one has to consider these three important things when writing: Credibility, Standards and Ethics.

Ms. Divine Lee was supposed to be the next speaker but since she’s not available during that time, Mr. Jinoe Gavan of takbo.ph on the other hand shared his expertise on how bloggers should engage and interact with their audience or readers. He said that content is the King and this is one of the factors to attract readers. He also mentioned that a blogger should always have a fresh idea to write about: either coming from a hot question or asking a suggestion for the next topic.

Currently, since the Marketing industry is seeing social media as their partners when it comes to reaching out to their customers, Mr. Liam Capati, media director of Starcom MediaVest Group, was able to share what factors that the brand is looking for before they advertise in someone’s blog. He emphasized that the content quality and high traffic are the two important things to consider.

Did you know that Mr. Abe Olandres is the co-founder of the Philippine Blog Awards in 2007?

During the afternoon session, Mr. Olandres, the first speaker of this year’s Blogopolis, also gave hints and advice to the bloggers on how to take their own blogs to the next level. He said that a blogger should treat blogging as a business. In his presentation, he mentioned that blogging is similar to the centuries-old publishing business where blogger needs to take on bigger roles as Publisher. He further shared his insights of successful blogging since based on his own experience; he was able to grow YugaTech single-handedly for the last 7 years.

Among the panelists of Mr. Olandres’ session were the Philippines’ top bloggers namely Noemi Dado (aboutmyrecovery.com), Christine Dychiao (manilafashionobserver.com), David Guison (davidguison.com), Ivan Henares (ivanhenares.com), Mic Sy Lim (fashionpulis.com), Anthony and Tippy Go (googleygooeys.com), and Carlo Ople (newmedia.com).

Time to relax and socialize! Participants during the Networking Night.

Was the free-flowing of beverages present in the event? Of course, yes! After the productive discussion of essential topics in the four corners of Makati Shangri-La’s Ballroom, a Networking Night was then followed where the participants and speakers socialized with each other. Mr. Johnoy Danao, an indie musician/performer and the voice behind the latest music video commercial of Skin White, was also present during the night. He rendered the audience series of acoustic songs.

Participants lined up at the registration area to claim their additional freebies.

As a participant, the question that keeps on boggling in my mind is that “could bloggers become threat to journalists someday?” Since one of the speakers has mentioned that based on the survey, 61% of PH Internet users trust consumer opinion posted online and it doesn’t matter whether it’s truth or lie / positive or negative. Well maybe! Due to the vast evolution of social media, I believe that bloggers are now the hybrid virtual journalists in the making and they could be the key players of the virtual world. (AAP)

Double Decker Parking Space

Double Deck Parking Space, Double Decker Parking Space, Parking Lift, Saving Parking Lot Space

When I was a child, my sister and I used to share one room and because we’re still kids, we were using a Double Deck bed wherein I was at the top of it while my sister’s bed was below mine. It’s actually a perfect experience for a kid like me because I was able to see the things around me in an elevated position which helped me surpassed my fear of heights. Aside from that, using a Double Deck bed is indeed practical for a family living in a house with limited space.

A few months ago, I saw in the news that there’s a high end condominium somewhere in Singapore where the owner who lives in the high rise levels can opt to avail a flexible parking: flexible in a sense that their car could be placed just beside the condo unit. Amazing, right? Gadgets are not the only thing that evolves in this world but also the physical design and engineering of the building infrastructures as well.

I have bought a lot somewhere in Taguig City. It has an area of 66 square meter; not quite big enough for someone who is dreaming of erecting a mansion but definitely could be considered as one of the man’s greatest assets. Someday, I would like my future apartment home to be erected on it. Of course, I’m planning to place a parking lot too. But knowing I only have a limited space, I might consider installing a parking lift for it would maximize my car’s parking space if I decided to own more than one car.

In reality, I know that I’m just dreaming these things but I know someday, I can fulfill this dream if I just keep on believing. For when we stop dreaming, we stop living, and that is the most significant belief that a person should consider. (AAP)

Be Captivated with the New Acqua Products by Penshoppe

Penshoppe Acqua Body Sprays, Penshoppe Acqua, Penshoppe Gyro Collide, Penshoppe Street Jam, Penshoppe i am sweet heart, Penshoppe Mesmerize Flames, Penshoppe Acqua Bella, Penshoppe Acqua Bene, Acqua Bella, Acqua Bene, Blogopolis 2012

When you smell good, you feel good. It’s one way of building confidence in a person and I believe that it is one of the most important aspects to become a better person. Why did I say so? It is because when someone praises something about a person either his or her smell or looks, that person will be inspired to typically exceed or continue with what he or she is doing. Appreciation for me is the best motivation. That’s why, I see to it that I always look and smell good.

I am one of the lucky persons to have the complete set of the new Acqua body sprays from Penshoppe. The products are actually for men (Acqua Bene) and women (Acqua Bella) who want to make his or her day extra-ordinary.

I have tried using Acqua Bene’s Gyro Collide; well I’m a fan of it because the scent is not too strong which makes me want to spray more, perfect for my everyday office work. I also tried using Acqua Bene’s Street Jam and for me, the scent is kinda’ hip and relaxing, fit for my outdoor activities like malling, dinner with friends and rehearsal with my band.

For the female scent, Penshoppe also have the ‘i am sweet heart’ and ‘mesmerize flames’ body sprays. I let my sister smelled these perfumes and she said she love it and looking forward in trying it in the next couple of days. Well, she already gave me an idea on what Christmas presents to give to my close friends who are ladies.

It is only natural to compliment how the person smells with that of his or her personality. Although you cannot judge a person with how he or she smells but it is definitely one of the best factors that truly affect someone’s judgement. (AAP)

My Dream Studio

First-Class Studio, Home Studio, My Dream Studio, Studio, Music Studio

Singing has been one of my passions in life. I’ve started my singing career when I was only three years old and the first exposure that I’ve had happened in our barangay community. It was also the first time I felt that stage was my second home in my heart. That’s why I kept a promise that if ever I will establish my own home, I will allot a space for a home studio.

Since the home studio will become my favorite place, I will see to it that I will invest on each of the equipments found inside the room: from microphones to recording units to headsets, going to the design of the ceilings and walls, and down to the style of the flooring. I will ensure that it would not just look presentable but elegant in nature. Of course to place the equipments properly, I need first to have a furniture that will hold the electronic equipments. I’m looking forward in purchasing a furniture like the first-class studio desk at Musician’s friend.

Initially, I’m thinking that my planned home studio will only be used privately which means it is solely for my family and closed friends. Then after sometime, maybe I will open it to public, especially to those who are also passionate in singing like me.

I know that putting up a home studio requires an effort, but if that reflects my personality, I will really work hard for it! For it signifies me not just as a person but as a singer with legacy. (AAP)

How to Avoid Christmas Shopping Rush

Are you tired of the yearly Christmas Shopping Rush? Well, change your habit or should I say break your paradigm. Based on what I read from a book, it takes 21 days to break someone’s paradigm. And if you get used to it, you will know how to value punctuality.

How to avoid Christmas Shopping Rush, Christmas Sale, How to be thrifty this Christmas, Thrifty Christmas, Christmas Shopping strategy, Avoiding Christmas Sale, Gift to godchildren, Gift giving, Christmas campaign, Christmas preparation, Christmas sale campaign, Christmas Shopping in the Philippines, Christmas in the Philippines, Philippines’ Christmas

Two weekends ago, it was a privilege for a busy person like me to almost accomplish my Christmas gift shopping for my godchildren (4 goddaughters and 2 godsons) when I accidentally passed through the TriNoma mall. I was able to buy gifts for 5 of my 6 godchildren. This year, I’ve chosen to give them signature school bags which they can use either in school or when they go out to have a family affair. Meanwhile, here are some of the tips to make your Christmas Shopping hassle-free:

  1. Time is gold! Remember that timing is necessary as it has been my practice to buy Christmas gifts at least a month before the 25th of December. Moreover, I can still remember that two years ago I have experienced doing the Christmas shopping as early as October, and it was really an advantage because I didn’t experience difficulty in buying the presents. Also, I’ve given myself an ample amount of time in selecting and deciding what presents to give them.
  2. Make a name list. You are familiar with the names of each of the family members living inside the house, however writing down all their names including your godchildren, close friends or even your neighbors would ensure you that you won’t duplicate your gifts and you won’t miss anyone. Instead of listing it to the synapse of your brain cells, creating a name list in a piece of paper won’t even bother a single brain cell.
  3. Avail discounted items. Yes, this suggestion is part of my list because it could really save you money. When I say ‘save’ I mean big discounts like 70% or 80% off. But in doing so, it should be accompanied with correct timing. If there’s a big discount sale in a mall, then prepare for it. Be punctual enough to plan ahead and aim to be the first person in the mall. As the saying goes, early bird catches the worm or should I say good quality items.
  4. Balance cash and cashless. Some of us always want to shop cashless using either credit or debit card, but this time I highly recommend you to bring with you your cash because sometimes, the card reader is offline. Well, anticipate for the worse so that you won’t get hassle.
  5. Don’t avail Christmas sales and promos on December. One of the strategies that the mall is doing today is promoting a Christmas sale campaign. Well, based on my observation, they are just doing this to entice their customers to shop because if you will try to analyze, most of the products they are offering, are actually not discounted. Quite a strategy, huh!

Traditionally, we Filipinos love to cram in everything. But if we can just break this tradition and change for the better, then we are not just overcoming our ‘Christmas Shopping Rush’ paradigm but we are also uplifting our nation unknowingly. Remember that a punctual person is always indeed one step ahead of that diligent one. (AAP)

The Importance of Mindset

The importance of mindset, Mindset, Positive Mindset, How to be happy, How to be contented, How to maximize vacation, Attitude Management, Positive Something, How to cope with situations, How to fight anger, Avoiding Annoyance, How to avoid annoyance, How to kill upset, How to control responses

What’s the first thing that you do when you get home after long hours of working in the office? I usually remove my shoes then my socks, and if the TV program in the living room is quite interesting, then I will spend my time there while sitting at the sofa and placing my feet on top of a stool chair. If the show is boring, I go directly to my room, change my clothes then I lay on my bed without doing anything but just staring at the ceiling or wall. I’m doing this to relieve my stress which is somehow effective because after an hour or so, I feel recharge. It’s what I call, mindset through ambiance.

There was a time when I’m relaxing in my room and our neighborhood next to it suddenly played a loud noisy music, what I did is I went down to the living room instead and I watched a movie while munching some chips. Again, my mindset has worked out to free me from annoyance.

Mindset is not only applicable in relaxation because you can use your mindset in all situations like when you take the exams (of course you have to review as well), or you want to have a lively party, or you want to enjoy a meaningful vacation (whatever happens), or you want to be satisfied in a good meal served on the table (even when you’re eating alone), or even when you want to go to the office and get the work done happily (even if it’s difficult).

Like what I’ve said, the key to an effective mindset is through your surroundings or ambiance. You cannot definitely convince yourself of something that is truly opposite with reality. That’s why you need to choose your preference that you feel you want to get things done like staying in your most favorite part of your home. For instance, if you think dining room is the most comfortable part of your home to enjoy the food, then make it pleasing to your eyes, you can purchase the model of the furniture that you really like (for example, you can pick from a wide variety of bistro furniture at thegardengates to make the dining room cozy enough). Or if you will have a vacation, then you can consider inviting your true friends or your close family members to ensure that your vacation will be memorable. I recommend that you should not settle for something that you just like over something that you really want and aiming to have.

Mindset is the key to every situation if you want to achieve something. Because when you set your mind, you already set the expectation despite all the odds that could happen. However, you have to use your mindset positively, since we all know that a positive something is a negative nothing and that is the true essence of contentment. (AAP)

It was my third time to attend an Oracle gathering for this year and this time, Oracle Corporation has successfully shared their expertise on Cloud Computing and Big Data during the Oracle Technology Network Developer Day held at the Grand Ballroom, Intercontinental Manila, Ayala Avenue, Makati City, November 14.

Oracle Corporation, Oracle (Philippine) Corporation, Oracle Technology Network Developer, Oracle Developer Day, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Cloud Service Model, Database as a Service, Database as a Service (DBaaS) by Jug Mensenares and Andre Dela Paz, Securing Data In Private Cloud, Cloud Security, Oracle NoSQL Database and Oracle Database (a perfect fit) by ER Hapal, Oracle Advanced Analytics – Oracle R Enterprise & Data Mining IT by Mike Blancas, ER Hapal, Andre Dela Paz, Jug Mensenares, Niel Pandya, Oracle, Oracle Day 2012, Oracle Day 2012 Manila, Oracle Day November 2012, Oracle Day event, Oracle Day Philippines, Grand Ballroom Intercontinental Manila, Intercontinental Manila, Intercontinental Manila Hotel

Oracle Developer Day November 2012 participants.

Ranking at #11 in the list of Forbes’ World’s Most Powerful Brand in October 2012, Oracle has never failed the I.T. professionals with its highly competitive product particularly in their latest Cloud Computing. Although we know that Cloud technology has been there for like several years now, still this company has again raised the bar when it comes to innovation.

Mr. Mike Blancas explaining his topic on Cloud Service Model.

During the conference, Mr. Mike Blancas, Principal Sales Consultant of the Oracle (Philippines) Corporation, was able to share his knowledge on Oracle’s Cloud Service Model. He said that the current release represents a Business Driven Application Management System due to its Total Cloud Control capability. First, it’s because of its Self-Service Deployment capacity wherein the end-users can install and freely configure the application by themselves. They can even select an application to use the database unlike before. Moreover, the end-users can now perform basic monitoring of resources in the cloud due to its Role-based monitoring capacity where they can impose policy-based resource management to provide the service to system only when needed (schedule based), or every time there’s a scale out and scale back actions to support the system (performance based).

Due to the model’s enhanced framework, the support on the system is proactive, meaning it’s extensible and self-updatable. But what intrigues this technology now is that, it can be quantified through its metering and chargeback capability. End-user costing can now be leveraged since the system can track each resources like the number of CPUs connected, amount of memory, length of time usage, etc. which will become the basis of the actual amount the users need only to pay. Furthermore, the costing on usage is highly configurable either per minute, per hour, and/or per resource.

Mr. Niel Pandya during his discussion about Securing Data in Private Clouds.

On the other hand, Mr. Niel Pandya, Senior Manager-Data Security of the Oracle (Philippines) Corporation, discussed the topic on how to secure data in Private Clouds. He mentioned that during the 90’s, Cloud technology for everyone was really a subject for discovery, setting aside the security. However, he shared that Oracle’s Cloud model today considered the importance of data in the Cloud by using the concepts on data discovery, compliance scan, vulnerability scan and security patching. He further exclaimed that the system can audit the database activity in real time via Oracle Audit Vault. Also, it can protect the data in insecure environments through Oracle Data Masking.

The speakers during their panel discussion.

Among the other topics that have been discussed during the conference were the following: Database as a Service (DBaaS) by Jug Mensenares and Andre Dela Paz; Big Data Technical Overview by Mr. Andre Dela Paz; Oracle NoSQL Database and Oracle Database (a perfect fit) by ER Hapal; and Oracle Advanced Analytics – Oracle R Enterprise & Data Mining by Mr. Mike Blancas.

There was a time when the call and data rate charges on mobile phones were not possible, but now there’s pre-paid call and text; there was a time when quantifying and metering electricity was not possible, but now there’s pre-paid metered electricity; there was a time when limiting resources and maximizing Cloud technology was not possible, but now there’s metering and chargeback. Maybe sooner or later, we might also have a pre-paid Cloud system. This is what Oracle Corporation is known for; surprising their customers what’s in the I.T. store. for them! (AAP)
