It’s fun at Fun Run

It is nice to know that most of the people are now aware and conscious about the benefits of exercise. Thus, Fun Runs are being conducted almost every month not just for the benefit of one’s health but also for the benefit of the environment, cancer patients or sometimes even saving energy. Why did I say so? It’s because when you participate in these fun runs, portion of proceeds goes to the respective organization to help sustain their projects for their advocacy.

However, don’t engage yourself just because everybody does, thinking that it’s ‘in’ when you run. Definitely, it is, but you need to consider certain preparations to enjoy this exciting activity.

Random Fun Run Pictures

Based on experience, here are some of the tips:

  1. Even if you think you are strong enough and you know your agility will always be at its peak, don’t participate in a hurry. Give yourself a dry run at least two weeks before your actual run. You can practice running either on a treadmill or around the park as long as you are running the desired distance. This will enable your body to quickly adapt to the said activity.
  2. Buy a good pair of running shoes. It doesn’t always mean that if it’s expensive, it’s durable! Sometimes, you are just paying for the brand of the shoes and not the material that was used in it. You can find wide variety of quality unbranded running shoes in malls or tiangge.
  3. Prepare your budget. Most of the fun run (even the sponsored one) requires registration fee. So I would suggest that before the registration day starts, you might consider saving some of your allowance. On the day of the fun run, you should bring spare money for your transportation or food that you can use before and after the activity.
  4. Never bring too many valuables. There is no room for gold earrings or expensive bracelets or necklaces in the fun run. This is not a fashion show! I would think that you don’t want these jewelries to be stolen or to be stained by your own sweat while you are running. Mobile phones and tablets are okay to bring as long as it is secured in a drawstring bag. You can also bring a bottle of water if the water or energy drink provided by the organizers is not enough.
  5. Use an appropriate bag. Belt bags are okay to use but if you don’t have a car to put your extra clothes which can be used after the activity, then I highly suggest using drawstring bags instead. It is not only spacious enough to put your extra clothes, wallets or gadgets but you can also carry it at your back while you are running. Although the organizers of the fun run may provide a baggage counter, I still recommend that you bring with you your bag as this guarantee the security of your valuables.

Aside from the health benefits, you will also find several booths that offer games and freebies at the fun run area. These are the sponsors of the event and some of them really give something worth it.

You can run at your own pace even without joining fun run event but when you partake in this kind of activity, you have not only gained the same health benefit but you also made a difference unintentionally since you’ve helped the organization in their meaningful advocacy. (AAP)

Written by one of the greatest film and theater director-playwright, the late Mario O’Hara, Stageshow is about the story of stage show performers: Ester (Liesl Batucan/Shamaine-Centenera Buencamino), Chabeng (Angelina Kanapi) and Magdea (May Bayot De Castro/Mae Paner) and how they cope with their respective lives as part of the golden theatrical past. Nevertheless, the play actually focuses on the lives of Ester and her husband Tirso (Roeder Camañag/Nonie Buencamino), who is also a stage performer, as they surpass the different struggles of their real-life dilemma.

Interaction with the casts after the show

I’ve watched the 3pm show with Liesl as Ester and Roeder as Tirso. What can I say? They both gave justice to each of the characters including the supporting casts: Bobby Gonzales (Rody Vera), Caridad (Rayna Reyes), Meyor (Lou Veloso), Indo (Gie Onida), Dulce (Pam Hundana),  Lupito (Gino Ramirez), Jimboy (Jonathan Tadioan), and Nonoy (Aaron Ching).

Stageshow ticket

The play clearly presented the true meaning of “Ang tanghalang walang entablado…” which is somewhat a tribute to those passionate people whose life evolves in theater. I was not surprised when I got teary eyes the moment they started the show because I already felt the connection. Well, it’s supposed to be a comedy show but the effect on me was completely opposite. How ironic, isn’t it?

Liesl Batucan (The one who played Ester).

This stageplay is one of the last works of Direk Mario. I can still remember the time when I first saw him in the classic Lino Brocka’s film Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang as Bertong Ketong where he nailed the character of a person with leprosy very well.

National Theatre Festival is one of the major projects of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Likewise, if you are the type of person who is fond of stage play, indie film and the arts, and who is already bored of the repetitive commercial Sci-Fi movies in the big screen, then this is the best time for you to enjoy the stage actors in their live performances. I bet you will be amazed on how each actor delivers their dialogues in every scene because there is really no room for Take Twos.

There are also souvenir items including books, scripts, and original CDs of the previous works staged at the CCP that are for sale at a discounted price. In my case, I bought the original CCP Sarswela Series entitled Walang Sugat which contains a libretto and the original music at 75% off.

If you haven’t watched any of the shows yet then find yourself a perfect time since this year’s 4th National Theater Festival will run from November 8-18, 2012. Check out the full schedule below:

The Hanging Bookshelf

bookshelf, hanging bookshelf, steel angle, book, shelf, bookshelves, books, hanging bookshelves, book inheritance, inheritance, www.oldbookillustrations.com

The greatest thing that will ever happen to a person is when he or she comes up on the stage to receive a diploma. Then after graduation, it’s time for him or her to look for a decent job to pursue a career. But what do you think is the most important thing to do first before we look for a job that we always seem to forget from the time we left the academe: keeping our books properly.

We usually inherit our books from our elder brothers or sisters and we do the same thing for the younger ones. However, if you are the youngest among the siblings and all your cousins have already graduated, you don’t seem to care for your books anymore unless you are planning to work in the academe.

Aside from bringing these books to the second hand bookstore, you might consider as well a bookshelf inside your home to keep it. In my case, my father put an improvised book shelf inside my room because I have plenty of books since I finished two technical courses: Technician and Engineering. The bookshelf is 1 meter in length and it is made up of six pieces half-inch thick rectangular plywood. Unlike any common bookshelf, mine is hanging on a wall and is supported by a steel angle so I usually get a chair if I want to get something from it.

I still have plenty of books that are not in my bookshelf since the space is very limited but soon as I transfer my room, I will create another hanging bookshelf that is more than a meter long and it will be supported by several steel angles.

My bookshelf did not only free some space in my room but it also made my books easily visible since it is hanging and anyone who enters my room can see what book titles I have. Thus, it helps me in keeping my books ensuring that my nieces and nephews can use it in the future.

In reality, we can say that majority of the latest information can now be found in the internet which set aside our books. But we have to remind ourselves that without these books, we cannot graduate from our respective courses. Moreover, we cannot make our lives more competitive enough in this challenging world!  (AAP)

You Are Social But Are You Secured?

Facebook, Twitter, Plurk, facebook, twitter, plurk, social networking security, cybercrime law, cybercrime, cyber security, network security, social network, social networking protection, cyber protection, cybercrime protect, cybercrime protection, mini-floppy disk, micro-floppy disk, 21st century, cyber protection, virus, adware, malware, friendship, advantage, disadvantage, advantages, disadvantages

Do you still know the term, ‘write-protect’? How about microfloppy or mini-floppy disks? These are the necessary things you need in order to utilize the early computers. Sounds Jurassic? But we used to ‘write-protect’ our disks to guard the files from viruses that could destroy it. Amazing, right?

In a snap of a finger, the era of magnetic tapes and disks has vanished when the internet has dominated the 21st century. I can still remember the first time I surf the net last 1998 when I was in second year highschool. My first email account was from yahoo.com. I also used this website as the default search engine for my projects and assignments. It really amazed me to the point where surfing became part of my daily routine. We didn’t have a computer at home, but we have it in school. That’s why I always went home late after class during that time.

Aside from playing games, I frequently browse for pictures of the solar system and dinosaurs, and even read articles about heaven and hell. These are some of the interesting things that you can do in front of the computer before. Thus, social networking was not even part of its vocabulary.

As years went by, along the vast evolution of technology, internet usage has evolved as well making the users so indifferent. Why did I say so? This is all because of Social Networking.

It’s hip to ‘like’ a status; it’s more exciting to share photos in public to know what others think of it. Hence, we are enthusiasts to check our posts every second to see if someone puts a comment whether good or bad. Of course, we anticipate more of the good side. But we can’t leverage that, even your best friend can inadvertently feedback something that is negative. Although it’s true but thinking that others have already read the posts, your friendship turns to chaos followed by non-stop back and forth messages, making your best friend your worst enemy. And in a matter of click, your friendship is gone. How sad!

Looking at a positive side, it’s a great past time, isn’t it? Indeed, we even share our personal information such as birthday, phone numbers and addresses. In a simple click, we share but we don’t know there are complicated things that we should not bare. If your surfing is unlimited, it doesn’t mean your restrictions are limitless because the more you give information, the more you are unsecured and prone to hackers. This is not just like a microfloppy disk that you can ‘write-protect’ your data and become secured once you inserted it in the driver. You always have to keep in mind that there are million kinds of viruses, malware and adware created everyday tracking down its victims. It’s okay if it’s just your school project or assignment is at stake, but as of these days, sharing personal information can now risk your career, financial or even your life.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so as with technology since it depends in the hands of the users. We may see the overpowering advantages of it but we oftentimes overlook its drawback. They say too much love can kill you, but I would say too much info can breach you! It’s fun to be in, but it is better to be safe. (AAP)

My Style Statement inspired by The Ramp Crossings

Performers have to dress up appropriately everytime they are on stage so that they would look attractive to the audience. Sometimes, even if your performance is excellent but you don’t have that stage presence, the audience might still think you as an amateur since it has been considered by majority that looks and fashion are the main elements of being an icon.

I regard myself as a performer since as I already achieved singing in different events held in venues like Makati Shangri-La Hotel, T.G.I. Fridays, Shercon Hotel and Resort, The Tents, and so on. Thus, the grandest and memorable one was during a corporate event held in Smart Araneta Coliseum last December 2010.

Performances at different venues: [leftmost from top-to-bottom] Krocodile Grille and T.G.I. Friday’s; [center] Smart Araneta Coliseum; [rightmost from-top-to-bottom] The Club Morocco – Subic and Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

Currently, I’m part of the acoustic band, TheUnspoken, as a male vocalist who plays beatbox and percussion musical instruments at the same time. Every time we have a gig, I see to it that I would look presentable on stage. I check out the new clothing styles and trends over the internet monthly or I buy fashion magazines to deal with it. Sometimes, I even visit the boutique itself in shopping malls to see what’s in store for me.

At least two weeks before the performance, my band members and I occasionally discuss what attire should we wear depending on the event. Hence, we adjust the color, the type of shoes, and the style of it to coordinate with the event itself. That’s why it’s important for us to know what will be the theme, the programme flow and the potential audience. In that way we can provide them the performance they would like to see: the voice and the energy level plus the synchronization of our get up, which would give them a total entertainment that could probably give us more potential future clients.

I can’t wait to wear my new semi-Henley round neck shirt with buttons and stripes design (courtesy of The Bachelor’s Pad) in the upcoming gig.

Lately, I visited The Ramp Crossings boutique at TriNoma and I’ve seen wide variety of tops and bottoms to choose from which I could wear in the next coming gigs. From different kind of shirts: Henley, V-Neck, 3/4’s, round neck, long sleeves, polo shirts; down to slack pants, trousers and shorts.

A pair of Mundo trouser that fits my hips as the male vocalist/beatboxer of our band. When I stand up, it could catch the audience’s attention due to its distinctive skin-tight waist and loose legging style.

Aside from that, I also found several styles of leather and rubber shoes wherein the design cannot be found from the other stores.

The casual pair of Mundo shoes that I have has a touch of authentic material in different colored-strings, perfect for my wedding gig.

We can say that the other boutiques have the said items too but what matters now are the style and the rare designs. The uniqueness of each shirts and pants is what set the clotheslines of The Ramp Crossings afar from the rest. This is necessary for me since I’m a performer and its part of my marketing.

Furthermore, you may find yourself surprised because these stuffs (The Ramp Crossings’ products) can also be mixed up with tops’ and bottoms’ of other brands easily, which I frequently do from time to time to express the creativity of my clothing style.

But even if you’re not a performer and you just want something to wear when you go to the mall or to attend a party or gathering, or just having a dinner with a friend or having a sweet date with special someone, I believe you can still find the item in store just right for you. Formal attires are also available from trench coats to blazers to jackets to leather shoes or classy sandals for the ladies or even the hippy shoes for kids and teenagers.

Attires and dresses are like symbols. Flat Panel Mounting Can Save Room Space

I’m a very busy person but I see to it that I can still schedule a general cleaning of my room every month, or if not as soon as needed. However, if your room is not spacious and you have lots of stuff to consider, then that’s another thing.

Moving furniture from one place to the other, throwing unnecessary documents and wiping each of the items found inside my room are some of the tasks that I need to fulfil to fully clean my room. Sometimes, I even experiment in redesigning it so that it would look different and not boring. But of all these tasks, what I don’t like is moving furniture to another part of the room, either lifting or pushing or even pulling. It seems like I’m a worker who lifts heavy hollow blocks in a construction site.

It is common to stock several personal things for a bachelor like me which makes it more difficult in cleaning the room. Therefore, whenever I do the general cleaning, I also check what items can be taken out of my room. But aside from unloading stuffs, you might as well consider changing the plan of your room either by relocating the position of the furniture like the closet, table, or bed, and even the appliances.

A study lamp, 2 DVD players (one portable and one rectangular), iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock, 15-inch laptop, 3-in-1 desk jet printer/scanner/copier, 18-inch desk fan and a 32-inch LCD Television Set are the electrical appliances that can be found inside my small room. Among these items, the 32-inch LCD Television set is the biggest of them all. Hence, I decided that before the year ends, I will be using flat panel mounts for the Television set to save space. It will not just free some but significantly large amount of space that would allow me to freely move my office chair from one part of the room to the other. More space means less stress. Moreover, it could also provide me proper posture whenever I watch my TV.

Yes, proper posture matters, because in every task that we do, there is a recommended correct position of doing it. For example, when we pick up something from the ground or lifting heavy object, you need to carry it with your back, so as with watching TV, there is a suggested viewing angle. Usually, you can calculate the angle by using the Pythagorean Theorem as illustrated below.

Pythagorean Theorem

The distance for watching TV varies not only depending on the size of the TV, but also the type of TV (resolution, screen ratio, CRT vs LCD vs LED). LCD/LED models have a more limited viewing angle, typically within 30degrees of center before the contrast is reduced significantly. They also lose contrast when viewed from too big of a vertical angle high or low.

In order to install your TV at the right distance and appropriately, you will need flat panel mount for your TV.

So if I’m going to mount my TV set in a flat wall, I wouldn’t just give myself more room space but I could also enjoy my viewing experience. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone. Hand me some popcorn, and let the great cinematic experience begin! (AAP)

Liam reminds me of Sherlock Holmes in Taken 2

Taken Movie Review, Taken2 Movie Review, Taken 2 Movie Review, Taken, Taken2, Taken 2, Liam Neeson, Bryan Mills, Mills, Liam, The A-Team, Hannibal, Les Misérables, Jean Valjean, Maggie Grace, Kim, Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock, Holmes, Famke Janssen, Famke, Lenore, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men2, X2, XMen The Last Stand

I haven’t watched yet the part one of the movie Taken but I do believe that it was an awesome film based on the testimonials I’ve heard from my friends and officemates. Thus, even without hearing any testimonial, I can probably say that the veteran actor Liam Neeson, will always accept a challenging role in a great film that has promising script. I didn’t mean all but I think most it.

The first time I’ve seen Liam was in the movie, The A-Team as Hannibal (leader of the CIA) and after watching it, I already considered myself as one of his million fans around the world. I’ve also seen him in the classic movie, Les Misérables as Jean Valjean, and with his astounding performance from one character to the other; I could definitely say he is a remarkable actor as he nailed every character that he portrayed.

In the film Taken 2, he still played the role of Bryan Mills, a retired CIA agent and a father of a teenage girl named Kim (Maggie Grace). I suppose Kim at this point, already grew up significantly away from her character in part 1. But we can still sense that she was the same little girl that we knew. The only difference is that she is now a lady.

Like father, like daughter! It was an adrenaline rush for Kim to save her parents.

Part 2 was actually the semi-reverse of part 1, and that’s the exciting twist they put in the movie. In part 1, Mills was in action to rescue her daughter who was kidnapped to be sold in prostitution, but this time, it was their daughter’s turn to save them from the kidnappers.

Based on Mills’ approached on things and how he responded to the situation, I can say that his character is quite synonymous to Sherlock Holmes. Like Holmes, he was able to defeat the villain with the use of time, calculation and estimation. But of course, Holmes is much wiser, clever and weird as compare to Mills.

Liam Neeson (Bryan Mills) and Famke Janssen (Lenore) seem like a perfect couple. Trivia: Famke is the same actress who played Jean Grey in X-Men movies.

If you want to watch Taken 2 but with hesitations because you haven’t seen part 1 yet, then I encourage you to still watch it. Although Taken 2 is the sequel, you could still understand the plot of the whole story, as you could hear the details of part 1 in the characters’ conversation and flashback scenes. I can actually summarize part 1 as ‘victim surviving a catastrophe’ while part 2 as ‘vengeance seeking justice’.

For me, Bryan Mills’ character is an example of an absolute truth since whatever word he said or whatever statement he made; when he said it, he mean it. Touch-move rule is his game and there is no turning back! (AAP)

There are four variants of Kojie.san men deo sprays: Legend, Control, Frost and Prime; while there are two variants for the face and body soap, Extra Fresh and Extra Clean

Apparently, I have tried the Prime and Legend deo sprays and I like the scent. Also, I am currently using the Extra Fresh face and body soap and the effect is quite reasonable because I always feel fresh. I will also try the body lotion in next the couple of days.

The Possession unfolds Hebrew Exorcism

The Possession Movie Review 2012, Possession Movie Review 2012, The Possession 2012, The Possession Movie Review, Possession Movie Review, The Possession, Possession, Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sam Raimi, Hebrew Exorcism, The Hebrew Exorcism 2012, Exorcism 2012, Sam, Raimi, Producer Sam Raimi, Producer Raimi, Director Raimi, Antique Box, Yard Sale, Emily Exorcism

For some ultimate reason, I’ve watched the movie The Possession, because the trailer said Sam Raimi is the producer, and without a doubt, I told myself that it would be a fantastic horror movie. However, it didn’t turn out to be one but at least it was descent.

The movie is about a girl, who bought an antique box at a yard sale and without her knowledge, that box contains the ancient evil spirit that could possess her. This notion is not new anymore, but the movie somehow tried to become effective as new gimmick like ‘fingers trying to come out of the throat’ was introduced (I think it was creepy enough to know that there’s something inside you). Another thing is that, although it’s the common exorcism movie, it still looked differently because the Hebrew concept was added to it. But then again, it lacks everything like character development, filming style and a unique approach.

It says this movie is based on a true story and I think this could be one of the best factors to make it successful, as it would let the audience feel they don’t want to be alone anymore after watching it. The director must have been used this factor including the new tricks to push the idea up to its extent. With that being said, the film could have been exceeded what is expected. I don’t know if it’s just me but the film didn’t actually scare me unlike the other exorcism movies.

I don’t want to make a comparison but to give you an example, the film The Exorcism of Emily Rose is still fresh in my mind and until now, I’m getting paranoid whenever I wake up at 3am in the morning with no reason. Although, it was done in a semi-documentary style of filming, it was effective because it augmented my knowledge as an audience about the exorcism thing based on Emily’s true to life story.

I can still say that this movie is still worth watching but not in the big screen. Hence, it will be a lesson for me as a moviegoer that the best film director may not always contemplate of becoming the best producer as well. I’m not saying that my icon Sam Raimi is an example since he was only one of the fifteen producers of this film. Take note, he’s not even the executive producer! (AAP)
