Specs and Price are what matters to the new Nokia Lumia smart phones

If you think that brand name is more important for wise men, well in this era of modern technologies, you are definitely wrong! Because if you will ask a techy person regarding a gadget that he or she prefers, their preference will definitely base on how they scrutinized the specification of a certain product.

On the other hand, if you will ask the same question to a workaholic person, their answer might depend on how useful it is to their busy work or lifestyle. Moreover, if you insist to ask the same question to a socially-inclined but resourceful person, they would probably base their answer on the price of the gadget. Surprisingly, this is what Nokia offers to their 21st century customers; introducing, the new sets of Nokia Windows 8 phones: Lumia 620, 820 and 920.

Model numbers may just be part of the product’s existence but in reality you will notice that Nokia has developed these smart phones with customers of almost all classes in their mind. Check out the phones’ specifications below and I’m pretty much sure that you could find the one that meets your desire.

Lumia 620

Among the three new models, Lumia 620 might be the best option for the socially-hipped but resourceful person who always considers the budget in a gadget. Having a 3.8 inch LCD screen, the size of this phone is not that bulky because it’s only 11mm thick and weighs 127g. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera that impressively adjusts the images’ lighting and contrast. Also, this phone has a front-facing VGA camera fit for the casual video call that you make to your friends and love ones.

When it comes to data storage, this phone has an 8GB internal mass memory but don’t worry because you could extend it up to 64GB by adding a microSD card.

If you think Lumia 820 is the same with that of 620, you’re incorrect because aside from the larger screen (4.3 inch) as compared to that of 620, it has thinner a body of just about 9.9mm but much denser as it weighs 160g. This model also offers a wireless charging feature using a wireless charging case. So to charge it, you just need to place it and forget the cable.

Aside from that, this model has an 8-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics that auto focus on your target image. Similar to 620, this phone also has a front-facing VGA camera fit for video conferencing.

Data storage is the same with that of 620: an 8GB internal mass memory that you could extend up to 64GB via a microSD card.

Nokia Lumia 920

Of course, the higher the number, the higher the specs. Lumia 920 has the largest display screen (about 4.5 inch) great for web surfing, video calling or just viewing the PowerPoint presentation of your business proposal in preparation for an important client meeting. Also, this model is the heaviest among the three (weighs about 185g).

All features of 820 can also be found in this model including the wireless charging thing.

Moreover, this model has an advantage as compared to the other two because of its 8.7-megapixel rear camera with auto focus Carl Zeiss Tessar lens.

Bigger is better, having an internal data storage of 32GB mass memory. Unfortunately, this model has no expandable memory as compared to 620 and 820.

 ***

All these phones have their built-in Microsoft Office Application that lets you create or edit a Word, Excel and/or PowerPoint on the go. Also, these models have a unique ‘Smart Shoot’ feature that takes series of snapshots with only one click. Planning on taking a perfect jump shot? Then go ahead!

These Lumia models have also this built-in ‘Cinemagraph’ feature that lets you edit a phone’s video clip distinctively because by just tapping a portion of the video, you could stop its motion while the other parts of the video are still moving! Cool, isn’t it?

But wait, there’s more! Aside from the feature I’ve mentioned above, Nokia has developed this exclusive additional feature which they call ‘City Lens’ that lets your Lumia phone identify a nearby establishment such as coffee-shop, hotels or mall by just holding your phone to a certain direction. Furthermore, it also reveals helpful information of that establishment like the website or contact information. That is so fantastic and exceptionally useful application.

Last Thursday, I’m one of the lucky ‘passer-by’ customers who has experienced to use one of these amazing smart phones, the Lumia 820, in the Avant electronic store located in TriNoma mall. You can avail Nokia Lumia 820 at 0% installment plan using your major credit card. Moreover, when I checked the other products offered by the Avant (Abenson), one of the country’s biggest appliance store which is also the major destination of shoppers for the latest in mobile technology, unbelievably, they are also offering a great payment scheme for their customers since anyone can pay as low as P500/month for the gadget that one really wants, available of course on all major credit cards.

Guess what? I was astonished with how Nokia has evolved their product as compare to the remarkable ones they’ve developed previously. I even recorded some video clips of the Nokia Lumia 820 while using the demo product.

Nokia Lumia 820 – Panoramic Capture Demonstration

Nokia Lumia 820 – Other Exclusive Apps for Nokia like Maps and City Lens

As part of my revealing sentiments, I still have my almost five year old Nokia 5800 Express Music unit and I’m still using it in my everyday life. Now that’s what I call proof of standards that you can find in any Nokia product where specs and price truly matters! (AAP)

A Walk to Remember

Actually, I haven’t watched yet this film of Mandy Moore but according to my sister, it was a great film about love. Setting aside the film, have you experienced a very long distance of walking in your life? When I say long distance, I mean in kilometers? Well, maybe those who are in the provinces or in the very isolated area that is unreachable by the modern transportations such as trains or cars. Quite tough, huh!

However, you’ll be surprised with me because I’m already living in the city and yet, I used to walk in longer distances when I go to the office, usually in hundreds of meters. Although, we already have trains and buses, I still need to walk due to different reasons. Sometimes because of the heavy traffic and I think that I could walk faster than waiting for the bus or jeepney to move due to the congested roads especially during the rush hours. Sometimes, if I’m inside a mall, I just walk from one stall to the other, observing the surroundings because it makes me feel good as I meet different kinds of people and it inspires me to construct an idea or story for the stage play or short story or sometimes, even for the screenplay that I’m writing. It doesn’t just help my subconscious mind but it also aids my body due to the health benefits.

One thing I notice after doing this kind of activity, is the pain my feet feels because of the material of the shoes or sandals that I’m wearing. There are materials that really don’t fit to one’s feet but I know there are remedies like the lynco orthotics that are scientifically designed to relieve the tired muscles and to relax it the way the person would want their feet to be.

I can still remember what my mom used to tell me that during her elementary school days that they need to walk in kilometers just to attend to classes. This makes their feet really tired and their shoes look really old even just for a year of wearing.

Lucky enough that I’m living in the city and I won’t ever regret walking in long distances this is because I know to myself the importance of walking. Thus, it has a lot of benefits to me not just as a person but as an individual who appreciates life’s challenges! (AAP)

My Nightmare Experience with the Worst Local Bank

I am a credit card user for more or less five years from now but never in my entire life that I had felt underdog until one of my ex-trusted credit card company treated me one. Now is the best time to share with you not just my thoroughly bad experience but the worst ever in the history of my finance!

It started last year when I got hospitalized for a week. This was my first time I was confined and bed-ridden in a hospital where I’ve cancelled everything in my planner. It was really an unpleasant experience for me with all the dextrose and syringes. But the good thing there was I’m a full time employee who gets paid regularly so I was able to settle my account at the hospital including the post medical treatment expenses such as medicines and follow up check up.

However, the supposed-to-be payment of my regular responsibilities such as my credit card was affected since I regularly charge the grocery and personal expenses to it. This time, I wasn’t able to pay for the monthly due of June 2012. But the sooner I went home (although I wasn’t fully recovered yet) and even before the June statement was given to me, I was able to call their hotline and asking for consideration to waive the interest that might occur for that month since I already foresee that I cannot pay for it (not even the minimum amount). The agent told me to call back after a week or soon after the June statement will be posted to their system.

I followed what she told me and when I called back, the agent said that they cannot waive the charges of my account. I even asked them if I need to furnish them a copy of my Medical Certificate just to give consideration to my request, but still they refused. Thus, she gave me an option that I could apply it to their straight-to-instalment program which I did. She told me to call back after a week to follow up my request, unfortunately, it was declined. This was the first time that my request was declined so I asked her what the next best thing to do in my situation. She told me that I could still re-apply it to the same program for the next month which I did.

The following month, I called them back for another straight-to-instalment request. The same response I got from the agent: which was to call back after a number of the days or until they got a response from another department which approves or disapproves the request. I already got the financial statement of that month but the agent I spoke with told me that there was no response yet from their department. I told the agent that I’m worried of the finance charge and interest that my account would acquire if I could not settle the total balance on the due date. The agent has suggested me to pay at least the minimum amount before their due date so that the other charges won’t be applied. I asked the agent, “how about my application for their program?” She just told me that I could still pay the minimum amount while waiting for the approval of my request by which I then foolishly obeyed.

I requested for the third application. During this time, I’ve regularly used my credit card for my groceries and the like which was a normal thing for me to do since I already paid half of my total balance. Thus, I’m confident enough that my reapplication will be approved. Unfortunately, it was declined again.

I already lost my hope for the approval of my application and I was much more worried of the interest and finance charges that they would imposed to my account due to the recent transactions I’ve made.

Surprisingly back in November, I got a personal phone call from this bank and they were offering for the same straight-to-instalment program under my account. I was a bit excited about it however; they were just offering a portion of the total balance which was not even half of the total balance of my account. When I spoke with the agent, I already sensed that something wrong was going on. This could be one of the filthy strategies of this bank just to hook up their customers and prolong the agony of paying the interest and finance charges. I frankly told the agent that I like to apply but it should be the whole amount. She insisted that only a portion of the amount was offered. Again, I honestly told her that I already applied for it three times but were declined. She said she could reapply another same request to my account which I felt secure because this time, it was the bank that called and offered me for such reapplication.

Unfortunately, the reapplication was declined for the fourth time. This made my total balance got bigger and bigger until I found myself looking for another bank that offers a balance transfer at a low rate.

Earlier this January, I received a feedback from the new bank where I applied for a balance transfer that the only reason that my application will be disapproved if the amount that I’ve applied was more or less than the actual total amount. I’ve made my serious finance computation with the agent including the amount that I need to settle from the old bank to approve my request.

Luckily, it was approved. However, when I called the ‘worst local bank’ back to close my account, they said that my account has incurred additional interest and I still need to pay for that interest before closing the account! I cannot fully understand the situation because the balance transferred that I have applied to the new bank has been approved with no issues. And if ever I still have interest to pay from the old bank, my balance transfer application will be disapproved! The agent simply answered me that it was a system generated. At first, I told her that I am not willing to pay for that amount and insisted to close my account. She boastfully said that she cannot do it unless I pay for the interest! During that time, I really felt bad as if I would like to curse the day I applied for the said credit card.

As to date, I have paid them the additional unreasonable interest and charges, and finally closed the account. But with that being said, they cannot stop me from spreading this information! I do have friends who are working in that company and now I know the reason why most of the employees of that bank don’t avail their own credit card, it’s simply because of their absolutely rotten business strategy: to dig and earn money from their painfully paying customers. Right now, I positively believe that credit cards are not bad as long as you manage your accounts wisely. Moreover, I’ve learned my lesson that even if you manage it carefully, you need to cautiously choose what bank is behind that credit card. Based on my experience, I don’t just believe they are the world’s local bank but certainly the world’s worst bank ever! (AAP)

Ring: A Symbolical Memento

When I was a kid, I used to think why jewelry is important to a person. Somehow, I realized that the importance really depends on the person or the one who wears it.

I’m pertaining to all kinds of jewelries like earrings, necklace, bracelet, ring and anklet. But among the types, I precisely believe in the simplest yet symbolical of them all, the ring. Not because I’m a fan of the scary movie film but because you can wear it easily to one of your fingers.

When I was in highschool, I used to have a silver ring, and everytime I remember it reminds me of the challenges of my highschool days. Same goes with my college ring but the difference was the type of material used because it’s made out of gold. I even pawned it during the time I really need a money for my school project but I always got it back. Unluckily, I already lost both of my highschool and college rings; the latter because someone has stole it from my baggage when I’ve had my first vacation trip abroad.

In the next chapters of my life, I’m looking forward to have a unique jewelry that would remind me of the highlights of my life. Of course, it would still be a ring but unique in a sense that it is made of cobalt. You can take a glimpse of the glamorous designs of rings at scott kay cobalt.

I may or may not get married soon because it really depends on me on how I wanted to live my life. If ever I reached my ideal marrying age and I haven’t found yet my lucky girl, I’m just hoping that the next ring that I’m going to keep would not be a suffering! Kiddin’ aside. (AAP)

How much is your IC (Identical CD)

The Electronics Engineer’s layman term for IC is Integrated Circuit. For some, they refer it to Identity Crisis but for the duplicate copy of any CD, I personally call it, Identical CD.

When I was in college I was afraid of entering an LRT station because of the inspection of bags conducted by the security. Furthermore, it’s because of the issue on the confiscation of VCD/DVD piracy. But now, our 21st century market has shifted from the tradition as cd replication services are now being offered legally.

Admit it or not, there are several advantages of duplicating a CD: it could be in the academe as storage of the presentation/lecture that the student submits or it could be in a familly reunion to share the copy of the old pictures from the past.

I agree in the government’s advocacy against the illegal piracy because it would not only kill the movie, music and I.T. industries but it also encourages the increase of carbon print due to the quantity of garbage out of less quality copies. (AAP)

Not too late for a New Year’s Resolution

Time flies so fast but it shouldn’t be our reason not to make our New Year’s Resolution for 2013.

Two week’s ago, I sent a proposal to our internal department about an activity for this January. I suggested that everyone from our internal department must create their top 5 New Year’s Resolutions and then I will collate and send it as a postcard to the team.

With this, we are not just having fun and engage at work but we also share our respective insights of our life without spending even a centavo.

If you’re saying that January is almost over, don’t worry because there’s still a Chinese New Year on the month of February. For I believe that if there’s a will, there will always be a way to a person seeking a change in life. (AAP)

Equestrian: A not so ordinary sports for ladies

A gentleman who is riding a horse may not look interesting to us because it’s natural for the image of a man. How about Vice Ganda riding a horse? It seems to be redundant, right? Just kidding! Well, not to mention but a lady who do horseback riding will always amaze any audience because its unusual.

In the Philippines, we know someone who was not just famous with her horseback riding skill but also a mediocre in Equestrian. She is none other than Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski. She has won major awards in this sports during her prime for almost a decade ago.

I admire her talent in Equestrian because I know this sports is quite dangerous since the famous actor Christopher Reeve, the one who played Superman, had been paralyzed last May 1995 because of he said sports. He was thrown from his horse and broke his neck. He spent months of therapy training himself to breathe without the aid of a respirator. After 8 years, he went into cardiac arrest on October 9, 2004. He went into a coma the following day and passed away on October 10, 2004.

Going back to Mikee, I just noticed that in order for her to be good in Equestrian, she equipped herself with proper gear especially the ones for safety. I’m sure her pair of riding pants was something durable enough to avoid tearing as this hasn’t just free her from worries and sustaining her confidence while in the competition.

Although she isn’t playing anymore, I still salute her for the recognition she has brought to our country in the field of Equestrian. (AAP)

Sentimental Strings

You certainly cannot blame a person for collecting things that interests him or her. It’s like judging someone from his passion and not giving importance on that person’s definition of sentimental.

Filipinos are normally sentimental because we always keep something to ourselves whether it is valuable or not. Sometimes, that something could mean tangible or intangible. If that is tangible, we usually put it inside our own private room securing it to anyone who might damage it physically. If it’s quite confidential and the personality of the person is somehow reserved, that sentimental something can be found inside the closet of his or her room which serves as the daily inspiration.

In my case, I’m a music lover and I almost like any genre of the song. When I’m a fan of an artist I usually buy the compilation album from my own pocket including every interview or publication that I could read on. I even buy a VCD/DVD karaoke album of that artist and sing his or her songs repeatedly with no definite span or period as long as I’m enjoying the songs.

On the otherhand, I know some of my relatives who is also inclined with music passionately. For him, aside from collecting tons of memorabilia of his icon, Elvis Presley: like posters, publication, CD/VCD/DVD, etc. Anything as long as it has the King of Rock and Roll’s trademark, he even purchases and collects different kinds of guitar that his idol uses. Some of his guitar collection are really expensive and genuine like the wide variety selection of guitars in Epiphone Les Paul at guitar center.

It’s quite interesting because he was able to preserve majority of his collections which is one of the best examples of putting one’s sentimental value. He is really passionate about it and it helps him to conserve the things that inspires his life to make it significant. Well, that’s the true essence of passion: putting one’s heart to the things that he or she loves not just because it’s necessary for living but because it’s an involuntary response to the unconditional desire.
