If one can say, there’s a paradise in Boracay and Pagudgud because of its impressive white sand beaches, well I can say that Padi has its own definition of paradise here in Morong Bataan.

Just before the summer season has started last March, our company (West EIT) has conducted its Team Building in Padi sa Morong Bataan. At first, I’m puzzled with the name of the place why it’s called Padi (it’s like Padikit /to stick/or Padipa /to spread sideways wide open arms/). The practical reason, the beach house is located in Padi Street, Strand Subdivision, Barangay Nagbalayong, Morong Bataan. Now we know!

Subic Bay Freeport Zone where we bought shades, cocktails and beers.

You can reach Padi sa Morong Bataan after an approximate 4-5.5 hours of travel time from Manila (including all stop over). This is based on a regular Sunday morning travel, I don’t know if there is a significant time difference during weekdays. It is advisable to have your lunch and buy other stuffs at Subic since there are no nearby commercial stores in Padi.

Actually, there is nothing rare or unique in Padi: it is just a stylistic modern white beach house facing West Philippine Sea (South China Sea). But what makes it special is the solemnity of the place since it is located inside a private subdivision: the more personal the place it becomes, the more enjoyable it is for the guests, which only means that you can solely enjoy the beach during your entire stay privately. You’ll surely love walking in barefoot because of the texture of the sand; not really a white sand beach but definitely as powdery as the sands of Station 1 in Boracay.

The house is quite big enough to accommodate an average of 15-20 persons (in our case, we were 17 including the two drivers). It has four bedrooms: three of which are located at the second floor and has a balcony and each of it can accommodate 2-3 persons, while the remaining room is at the ground floor beside the living room which can accommodate 5-8 persons (maybe with the use of extra bed mattresses). It has a large living room that has a 9-ball billiard table and an entertainment system where you can either sing all day and night with its videoke or watch your favorite movies with its surround speakers if nobody would like to participate in the noise pollution. However, the movies are not available and you still need to bring one.

Although the kitchen facade is not so new, I think that it will still attract any chefs to cook their masterpieces because of the almost complete equipments. Take note that not all utensils and equipments are seen outright, you have to approach the care taker so that they can get it for you from their stock room.

A relaxing private pool with a view of beautiful mountains from afar.

The dining room is good for 10-12 people and it has a half-octagon shaped facing the private pool. Yes, a 4-6 feet deep private pool that would let you feels the unsalted water all over your body. The front of the pool lets you see the side panorama of the modern house and on the other side; it lets you see the amazing shape of the nearest mountain from afar.

Most of the reservation lasts only for an overnight like what we’ve had for our Team Building, and since we want to make it a memorable one, we’ve created our own party with games at the side of the beach using only the lights of the Bonfire. You can request for Bonfire materials from the care taker for only P300 but you need to inform them ahead of time (the moment you make your reservation).

A great facade of the beach just before the sunset.

The accommodation costs P 15,000.00 (good for 15 persons – there will be additional fee exceeding 15. Try to call them to confirm if they already changed this policy.), and the house is yours for an overnight stay. To prevent confusion, I would like to emphasize that this is not a hotel but rather a beach rest house. The accommodation does not include food and personal toiletries. Hence, you must bring one as you really need to.

VISITA IGLESIA: My Personal Journey

The Philippines is the only country in South East Asia where majority of the people are Roman Catholic. If we are going to trace back the richness of our history, the Spaniards led by the Magellan’s Expedition brought it to us in the early 15th century. Since then, Christianity has spread all over the country.

Two weeks ago, we have celebrated holy week, an event which is considered to be sacred and ‘holy’ (from the word itself) especially to Catholics. Every year in the observance of this important event, the government declares for a long weekend starting from Maundy Thursday up to Easter Sunday. As a Catholic, I didn’t just observe the celebration but I was able to actively participate in every activity that the church has to offer.

As part of the tradition, we have the so-called Visita Iglesia, an activity where the Catholics should visit at least seven churches so that they can pray and reflect through the Station of the Cross (a 14th station ritual about the sufferings of Jesus Christ before, during and after His crucifixion). If we will strictly follow what the activity should really be, then we need to visit 7 new churches: new in such a way that you haven’t been to that church before.

This activity is performed during Maundy Thursday or Good Friday. In my case, I was able to have it on Maundy Thursday. I started at around 8 o’clock in the morning after my night shift job. I went first to the famous Redemptorist church in Baclaran. Most of us only knew this as Baclaran church but the actual name of the church is National Shrine of Perpetual Help.

Although it was still early during that time, the people however started to pile up in each of the stations to have their respective Station of the Cross. I spent 1 and a half hour to finish the session and I proceeded to the next church which is just 30-minutes away.

The second church that I’ve visited is beside the famous mall in Pasay. One may say it’s the MOA church because of its location, but the actual name of the church is Shrine of Jesus, The Way, The Truth And The Life.

National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was the third church I visited. It is commonly known as Guadalupe church and it’s just a walking distance from Guadalupe MRT station. The location of the church is quite unique because it was erected in a slope terrain.

As part of the journey, I was able to visit one of the oldest churches in Metro Manila, the San Roque Parish (Diocesan Shrine of Santa Maria). Erected in 1815, this historical church is located in Pateros, the small city known for its duck-raising industry especially for producing balut.

Despite of the scorching heat of the sun, it didn’t stop me to go to St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish Church, which marked the sixth church I visited. This small yet solemn church is located beside Ususan Elementary School of Taguig City.

It was already passed four in the afternoon when I arrived at Santuario De San Antonio Parish in Forbes Park, Makati. This was the last of the 7 churches in my line up and I was really fulfilled. During that time, I already felt the tiredness of my body physically but in contrast, I felt something different spiritually. It’s a feeling greater than the satisfaction brought by eating your favourite food or buying the latest Apple gadget.

Inside Santuario De San Antonio Parish, Makati

One thing I observed though during Visita Iglesia is that, most of the people sometimes don’t really pray and reflect seriously when they are having the Station of Cross, and instead they are just reciting it as if there’s a race behind: the faster they recite, the quicker they finish it. Thinking that the more church they can afford to visit equates the amount of their faith to God, which I think really doesn’t make sense at all. How about its solemnest?

I don’t know if it’s only me but when I reflect, it usually takes an hour or so, to meditate wholly. Well, we have different perception of faith but I am pretty much sure we only believe in one God above. Now that’s a fact! (AAP)

The Hunger Games is like a Big Brother House with Twists

The Hunger Games, Hunger Games, The Hunger Game, The Hunger Games Movie Review, Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games Trilogy, Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Katniss, Peeta, The Hunger Games 2012

The Hunger Games

I’ve watched the last full show of this movie on its opening night last month, and all I can say is that, it’s like a Big Brother house with a twist. Not just simple twists but complicated ones. Suzanne Collins created this world from her young adult novel which was published last September 28, 2008.

The story focused on two major characters: Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson), when they represented District 12 in the annual “Hunger Game” event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive. Although on Katniss’ slot, she was just a replacement to save her little sister from the upcoming danger.

I find it interesting because in every scene it lets the audience think how it is related to the title or to the concept of the movie, which in turn entice the mind to look forward on the next big thing that will happen. At first, I thought it’s something like a game show (a typical show in television), but hey wait, as I am seeing the scenery of the characters’ homeland and the situation they are facing, I anticipated that the title “The Hunger Games” is more like of a metaphor on the premise. Later on, I realized I was wrong because it is something bigger than that. Thus, it’s about how they pay respect to Panem’s (their country) tradition.

The Hunger Games, Hunger Games, The Hunger Game, The Hunger Games Movie Review, Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games Trilogy, Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Katniss, Peeta, The Hunger Games 2012

Collins was able to create an enchanted post-apocalyptic world; a totally unique, in a rare sense that in the future, aside from the notion of high end technologies, she was able to conceptualize as well how the people could possibly change their intuition on tradition and how they could preserve that belief sacredly.

Violence (having a rating of PG-13 in the Philippine movie houses) is what makes the audience feel the word ‘hunger’ in the context. However, one may also see it as sacred. These two words are completely opposite, but the story was able to justify its meaning and relation to one another. You’ll see what I mean when you’re in the middle of watching it.

Before the official start of the Hunger Game, participants are presented to the public and they are treated as warriors of their respective districts. They also went a rigorous training prior to entering the arena and during these times, they need to impress the audience moreover the members of the elite society so that they can receive assistance through sponsorships once the game started.

There is too much brutal scene at the start of the game but once you have surpassed that, you can get used to striking bloods and doomed situations. The reason why I said it’s like a Big Brother House it’s because after the participants entered the arena, the game organizers from time to time, were the ones updating them on the status of the game (i.e. who has been killed, any precautions, etc.) including the next instructions on how one can win the game.

Although the twists that I pertained to were sometimes predictable because of the game organizers, still it’s the participant who made every situation complicated with their responses to it.

For me, I don’t feel good at the ending of the movie because although Katniss and Peeta were declared as winners, it’s still so pathetic knowing that in their reality, winning the game is more like just prolonging the agony, making their lives more miserable. If I were on their shoes, I’d rather choose to be killed in a battle than faking everything in front of the public. Who knows, their fate might change on the other two books of Collins (Catching Fire and Mockingjay). Of course, I’m not going to read that because I’ll wait for it in the big screen. I am looking forward to the succeeding two parts of this Hunger Game trilogy. (AAP)

With the theme, Your Vision, Engineered, different forum on the current issues in the world of Information Technology have been discussed such as Oracle Fusion Applications (innovation on the existing Oracle products), Cloud Computing and Big Data.

The Devil Inside: Almost believable…

I’m a fan of horror movies: not just a typical fan but an avid fan. I always look forward in watching thriller movies and I really like the feeling of being alone after watching it and scaring myself. I’m not a masochist (for treating myself like that) because I only enjoy the feeling of being afraid of something that’s really not there.

The Devil Inside Movie
The Devil Inside Movie

Two Sundays ago, I’ve watched the movie, “The Devil Inside” and for me, I must say it’s kinda’ effective and believable. The casts are not that known to me, and the footages and scenes went down to the level of being ordinary. Amateur begets reality, and I think that’s the important component of a film to be more effective and to touch the audience’s sub-conscious minds. Although there were goofs I’ve seen in the film, like a French woman in the video footage who is very fluent in English and she doesn’t have that French accent, literally.

One reason I dislike about this movie is that, the camera is shaky and I almost vomit because of the unstable shots.

In general, I like the film. It’s not that worth watching but it’s worth a try. (AAP)

Dulaang La Salle Araneta Ensemble: Ang Patuloy Na Pagkinang

A is E For Laila
A is E For Laila
